The Silken Windhound is recognised in the USA by the second largest kennel club, the UKC. Furthermore, in the USA, the SWH is allowed to participate in many performance events like ASFA and Notra.
In Europe this breed is recognised only in Slovenia at present.
In the following countries the Silken is allowed to participate at FCI shows: Slovenia, Hungary and Croatia.
What is the role of the International Silken Windhound Society (ISWS)?
ISWS is the umbrella organisation of the Silken Windhound. It publishes the stud book, administers DNA verifications and issues the pedigrees. Moreover it developed the breed standard of the Silken Windhound and the guidlines for the breeders.

What is the life expectancy of a Silken Windhound?
The average life expectancy is about 12 - 14 years. If the dog is in good health, a much greater age can be reached. One Silken Windhound lived more than 20 years.
Does the Silken Windhound need a lot of exercise?
In general the Silken Windhound does not need more or less excercise than any other dog but he particularly loves to run fast on wide open spaces like fields or beaches.
What activities are suitable for Silken Windhounds?
There are definitely differences from dog to dog, depending on the nature and the temperament it could be for example agility, rally obedience, flyball, man trailing or therapy work. But most of all they like coursing, racing and running off leash.
They all like walks and appreciate snuggling on the sofa and cuddling with their owners.
